The season archive consists of a short summary, an overview of news items and a list of rankings.
In 2025, Aryna Sabalenka spent most of the time at the top of the ranking, starting and finishing the season at #1. She was overtaken by Iga Swiatek twice: first after a strong showing by Swiatek in the Middle East in February, and second after Swiatek won Wimbledon, her first good showing at a grass tournament since the juniors. Sabalenka righted the ship by winning the US Open.
The top 2 players were challenged this year, by Coco Gauff, who rose to #2 after winning Roland Garros, and by Elena Rybakina, who won the WTA Finals right after winning Tokyo, taking over the #2 spot from Swiatek.
2025 was arguably also the year of Amanda Anisimova. She started off strong by winning Doha, and then reached the Wimbledon final, where she lost to Swiatek 6-0 6-0. Her rebound was impressive: she again reached the final at the US Open, where she lost to Sabalenka in a much closer match. Anisimova ended the season at #5, having started at #32. Special mention is also deserved for Madison Keys, who won her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, by beating Sabalenka in a tense final.
The most improved players of 2025 were Victoria Mboko (+588, #26), Tereza Valentova (+408, #35) and Lois Boisson (+371, #66). The most special results of these players were Mboko's victory at Montreal, and Boisson's semifinal at Roland Garros.
The most regressing players of 2025 were Yuliya Putintseva (-399, #87), Donna Vekic (-306, #63) and Erika Andreeva (-257, #217). Putintseva and Vekic had started the season at #12 and #16, respectively.
