The season archive consists of a short summary, an overview of news items and a list of rankings.
In 2024, Aryna Sabalenka took over the top spot in the rankings from Iga Swiatek, after a good run at the US Open. Sabalenka had already come close by winning the Australian Open in January, but Swiatek then followed with a very strong run, which lasted until victory at Roland Garros. Over the summer, Sabalenka improved her level and after winning the US Open, she passed Swiatek for the number one spot.
2024 was also the year of the rise of Jasmine Paolini and Zheng Qinwen. Paolini surprised by reaching the final of both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and by showing a consistent level towards the end of the season. Zheng Qinwen rose by reaching the final of the Australian Open, winning the Olympic tournament in Paris, and finishing as runner-up at the WTA Finals in Riyadh. Zheng and Paolini finished the season as #4 and #10, respectively.
A special story was the victory of Barbora Krejcikova at Wimbledon, invoking the memory of her late mentor and 1998 Wimbledon champion Jana Novotna. As a former Roland Garros champion, Krejcikova wasn't known as a grass court specialist, but she managed to reach a new level on grass this year.
